Year: 2023
This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the International Maritime College Oman (IMCO) and ARA Petroleum (ARA E&P) through the EJAAD platform.
At the QAM site, ARA E&P produces between 600 to 800 m³/day of wastewater, which is currently managed using evaporation ponds. To reduce environmental impact and unlock economic value, the project explored sustainable solutions to monetize the resulting salt waste.
The initiative focused on investigating solidification and stabilization techniques, as well as modifying the salt’s crystal structure using chemical and thermal methods. The goal was to convert the waste into a dry powder product that can be reused, particularly as a component in drilling fluids.
This effort supports Oman Vision 2040 by advancing environmental sustainability, promoting waste-to-resource innovation, and contributing to the development of a circular economy in Oman’s industrial sector.
